TapCam ("we", "our", or "the Software") is a Windows application that turns your phone into a wireless webcam for your PC, together with its companion mobile app. It is built to be private by default, and this policy explains exactly what that means.
This Privacy Policy describes what information TapCam accesses, what leaves your devices, and what choices you have. By downloading or using TapCam, you agree to the practices described here.
TapCam streams your phone camera to your PC directly over your local Wi-Fi. The video goes from the phone to the PC and nowhere else: it does not pass through our servers, any cloud, or any third party. There is no account to create and nothing to upload.
Because the connection is direct and serverless, your camera feed is never visible to us. We could not access it even if we wanted to.
TapCam keeps some settings on your PC so the app behaves the way you left it, such as:
This stays on your device. It is never transmitted, synced, or backed up to any server. Uninstalling the app removes it.
TapCam is free. If you buy a PRO license and activate it, the app contacts our server (tapcam.app) to verify your license key. At that moment it sends your license key, the email tied to your purchase, and a one-way identifier derived from your PC (not the raw hardware id). We use this only to check the license, re-validate it periodically, and free the slot if you move to another PC or ask for a refund.
Payments are handled by our reseller, Lemon Squeezy, who acts as the merchant of record. We never receive or store your payment-card details.
The TapCam desktop app contains no advertising, no analytics SDK, and no usage tracking. It contacts our server for exactly two narrow things: to verify your PRO license (only if you buy PRO, described above) and to check whether a newer version exists (a simple request that asks for the latest version number and sends no personal data or identifier). Nothing about how you use the desktop app is reported. Our website is covered separately below.
The TapCam mobile app is different, and we would rather say so plainly: it includes Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics (both Google services), so that we can see when the app crashes on a device we do not own and understand which features are actually used. It reports crash diagnostics and a short list of technical events (pairing succeeded or failed and why, the start and end of a stream with its duration and resolution, which effect was picked, which screen was opened). It never sends your video, not even a single frame of it, nor your PC name, its IP address, your pairing code, or your device name, and it uses no advertising identifier. You can switch all of it off at any time in the app: Settings, then "Share usage and crash data". Separately from that telemetry, when you write to us from inside the mobile app, your message carries your name, your email address and your text, plus a small technical block that helps us answer: the app and Android version, your phone model, whether you are on Wi-Fi or mobile data, the masked local subnets of your phone and of the PC it last tried to reach (for example 192.168.1.x, never a full address), how the last connection attempt ended, and whether the camera permission was granted. That block holds no video, no PC name and no pairing code, and nothing is sent until you tap Send.
When you visit tapcam.app, our server keeps standard web logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) to keep the site running and secure. If you use the contact form, we receive your email, your message, and the optional details you add, only to reply to you.
To see how many people visit and what interests them, tapcam.app uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies and collects your approximate location (from your IP address), your device and browser, and the pages you view. You can opt out through your browser, a cookie choice, or Google's own opt-out tools. We do not use advertising cookies, and this analytics has no access to your camera or to the app.
Because your camera feed is processed on your own devices and travels only across your local network, TapCam never exposes it to the internet. We recommend keeping your devices and your Wi-Fi secured and up to date.
TapCam does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your country). Since we do not collect personal data through the app, no special provisions are needed, but children should use the software under parental supervision.
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have rights under the GDPR. The personal data we process is limited to what is needed to deliver a PRO license (your purchase email and license key), to answer a contact request, the diagnostics and usage data described above for the mobile app (which you can switch off in its settings), and, on our website only, the audience measurement handled by Google Analytics (on the basis of your consent or our legitimate interest). You may ask us to access or delete your data using the contact details below.
TapCam does not sell or share personal information. California residents may ask what limited information we hold (a PRO purchase email, if any) and request its deletion.
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the software or the law. Updates are posted here with a new revision date. If TapCam ever collects more than what is described above, this policy will be updated first to describe it.
